Dry gas seals are a critical part of modern centrifugal compressors. Clean and dry seal gas is critical for the reliable operation of the compressor but oftentimes overlooked. API defines these as the special-purpose arrangement of piping, filters, and instrumentation used to control and monitor the pressure or flow of seal, buffer or separation gas to the equipment shaft end seals. They are designed for uninterrupted, continuous operation in critical unspared service. We also supply versions for customers that need more or fewer features than is defined by the API Part 2/Chapter 2 requirements.
Each system is arranged for seal gas (dry, filtered gas supplied to the high-pressure side of a self-acting gas seal) and secondary seal gas supply (clean purge gas supplied to the area between the seals of a tandem self-acting gas seal) at the correct volume, pressure, and temperature to rotating equipment components (e.g. API 617 Compressor, etc.).

I am an extremely avid reader and usually devour two or three books a week. My library is packed with books ranging from the short and easy-to-read 200-page fiction crime and mystery novels to profound literary 1,200-page anthologies and historical compendiums.
But I must also shamefully admit that I frequently end up picking up all the short books and seldom have the time or mental energy to crack open any text that is longer than 500 pages. These books are just too long, have too much information and are too much of a time commitment.
My workplace is unfortunately no different. Nobody reads equipment manuals, specifications and standards that are more than a hundred pages long. Given the easy access we have to a wealth of information via the internet and email, we generally can and will avoid reading long and exhaustive documents.

Most of these standards were originally developed by professional engineering societies, such as the American Petroleum Institute (API), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE) and others to provide quality assurance, product uniformity, and minimum safety standards for widely used equipment such as compressors, pumps or expanders.
