The EU-DEM is a 3D raster dataset with elevations captured at 1 arc second postings (2.78E-4 degrees) or about every 30 metre. All three datasets are made available as tiles (5x5 or 1000x1000km) and as single files:- EU-DEM in ETRS89 geographic (EPSG code 4258)- EU-DEM in ETRS89-LAEA (EPSG code 3035)- Colour shaded relief image over Europe in ETRS89-LAEA (EPSG code 3035)
GPS Visualizer can read data files from many different sources, including but not limited to:GPX (a standard format used with many devices and programs, including Garmin's eTrex, GPSMAP, Oregon, Dakota, Colorado, & Nüvi series),Google Earth (.kml/.kmz),Google Maps routes (URLs),FAI/IGC glider logs,Fugawi (.trk/.wpt),Furuno,Garmin Fitness (.fit),Garmin Forerunner (.xml/.hst/.tcx),Garmin MapSource/BaseCamp/HomePort (.gdb),Geocaching.com (.loc),Google Sheets,iGO (.trk),Lowrance (.usr),Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (.xls/.xlsx),NMEA 0183 data,OziExplorer (.plt/.wpt),Suunto X9/X9i (.sdf),Timex Trainer,TomTom (.pgl),U-blox (.ubx),XML feeds,and of course tab-delimited or comma-separated text.
They are files that contain the altitude of a grid of points in a certain area of the Earth. They allow you to know the altitude of any point of the map, without needing to be at that point, where you would get it from the GPS.These files are used by OruxMaps for various functions:
As you can see, there are many utilities with those files. You can find them of different qualities. How much better they are, more size they have. OruxMaps downloads those provided by NASA, which have a mesh of 90 meters (3 seconds) between points. You can get better, here are some links: 153554b96e
