For versions prior to Illustrator 23, do not upgrade to macOS Monterey. Continue to use macOS Sierra instead. Upgrading from macOS Mojave is still supported and those who do so can continue to use their older version of the application. Older versions with 32-bit licensing components installed are compatible with macOS Mojave. Those who do so can reinstall their older versions and continue to use them. However, while older versions install and run properly on macOS Mojave, they do not have the new features of Illustrator CS6 and later. They can be installed and run but will not be as powerful or full-featured as the latest versions. To upgrade to a newer version of Illustrator, install the latest version from the Creative Cloud App for Mac.
If you already have Photoshop CS4 or CS5 installed, you will need to reinstall the plug-ins when you install a new version of Photoshop CS4 or CS5. (You can check the versions of the plug-ins you have installed by going to File > About Adobe Photoshop CS4 or CS5. About Adobe Photoshop CS3. You can uninstall the older versions of the plug-ins by removing the older plug-ins (if you have not already done so), and then reinstalling them as described below.)
I was unable to find any documentation on the Adobe forum, or on the Internet as to whether or not it is a known problem. I figure it is definitely a problem, because the installer is fully functional on my 32-bit Mac, so I am obviously not the first person to have experienced this, and it's a problem that is easily solved by not being macOS 10.15 Catalina and for me, using the Creative Cloud app is the only way to get Illustrator onto my Mac.
So at this point I must ask the following questions:
Can I install the Creative Cloud app if my Creative Cloud is currently inactive, or does it have to be active at all times?
Can I install the Creative Cloud app if my Creative Cloud is currently inactive?
Can I somehow repair my installation of Illustrator CS6 and still be able to open the application to start using it?
“You must be connected to the Creative Cloud service to install and update the Creative Suite apps. To update apps, your Creative Cloud account must be active and registered with the Service. If your Creative Cloud account is inactive, you can’t install or update the apps. You can’t install or update some apps if you don’t have a valid Creative Cloud account. Before you install the apps, make sure that you have a working internet connection.”
«Illustrator could not be installed because the app was unable to communicate with the Creative Cloud service. Please try restarting the app». The error message gives no indication of what’s wrong and no way to fix the problem. 827ec27edc
