(1) Field of the Invention The present invention relates to an object detector, and more particularly to an object detecting system for detecting an object in a given range of position and speed. (2) Description of the Prior Art As a conventional object detecting system, there has been known such one which employs the following principle: When the position and velocity of an object to be detected are given, the system sequentially generates a pulse signal in response to the relation between the displacement of the object and speed thereof which is required to pass through a set of measuring points. The relation is to be found by the system at the same time with a measurement of a set of pulses, and is then converted into digital signals and analyzed. The aforesaid relation is generally obtained by means of a time difference between the time when the pulse signal has been generated and the time when a corresponding pulse is received by a detector. For example, such an arrangement in which a pulse pair is received for every different position and the difference in time between the receipt of two pulses is found to make it possible to calculate the time taken by a beam of light to pass through a light transmissive substance which is to be measured as a period of time, is known, e.g., from U.S. Pat. No. 3,504,835. Such an arrangement requires a premeasuring stage for known distance and speed where the entire arrangement for detection and analysis is completed. However, when this arrangement is combined with a range finder as in the case of an X-Y measuring mechanism, two measuring stages are additionally required. That is, when the time taken by a beam of light to pass through fluid for a known distance and speed is combined with the time taken for the beam to pass the fluid for an unknown distance and speed, the resultant time difference is found in the following manner. Namely, the beam of light is emitted, and when the fluid passes the beam at a distance and speed where the beam has already been reflected by a reflector, a first pulse signal is given to the system as the time when the beam passes the reflector through a timing device which is provided in the system. d2c66b5586
