The pdc(4) driver now has text output. The pdc(4) driver now supports the following IDE host devices: Advantech PCI-1602 serial card, Advantech PCI-164x serial cards, and Sunix single and dual serial cards. The pdc(4) driver now supports the following SCSI host devices: IDE host devices and Sunix SCSI cards.

The pcs(4) driver now supports Sun XT and XT-LE PCI serial boards, a Sun MP150 PCI serial board, and several Advantech PCI serial boards, including the above-mentioned Advantech PCI-1602 and SPW-1610/1620/1650/1680/1700/1710/1850/1860/1880 serial cards, as well as the Sunix single and dual serial cards.

Usage: puc(4) [options]

Options:

--kernel-module=KMOD

Select the kernel module interface to load (KMOD or puc(4))

--kernel-module=KMOD:mod_name

Same as above, but use the given kernel module name as the basis

of the command line (mod_name must be the name of a kernel module

that is already loaded).

This new option makes it possible to load the driver using the new kernel module interface without loading any other modules. A module interface is a collection of kernel objects that interact with user-space programs to provide them with access to the serial port controller.

The puc(4) driver has also been ported to the new 2.6.35 kernel. It is not as efficient as the old puc(4) driver, but it has many new features, including support for PS/2 keyboards and mice, Sun VME AHA-1840 and AHA-1850 boards, Sun FireVME BladeCenter servers, and Sun FireT2/BladeCenter blades.

This is just an interim driver. I am going to continue to work on it until a final version is released. In the meantime, you are welcome to help out by providing bug reports, patches, and code.

The puc(4) driver is now fully functional as a module, as is the puc(4) module interface. This means that it can be used not only for building kernel modules, but also for running applications that need access to the serial port controller.
